White Card WA: Online Rules, Cost and Providers

In WA you need a white card (CPCWHS1001) for construction work, including construction work on mine sites. RTOs can only issue the WA card if you show evidence you are in WA when assessed. Some WA providers sell online courses, but the current WorkSafe WA position on fully online delivery is unclear, so check before you book.

White Card rules in Western Australia

  • WA (WorkSafe WA): general construction induction training is required for workers doing construction work in WA. Construction work is defined broadly (WHS General Regulations r.289: construction, alteration, fitting-out, renovation, repair, maintenance, demolition, excavation etc). PCBUs must ensure workers have it; judgement applies for incidental or escorted work.

  • WA: training done in another State or Territory is recognised under the WHS General Regulations, so interstate workers need not redo the WA course if they can show evidence of home-State induction. Both blue and white card types are accepted.

  • WA: card has no fixed expiry and remains valid while the holder stays in the construction industry; no mandatory repeat training, but if the holder leaves the industry for two consecutive years or longer the card becomes invalid.

    Source: www.worksafe.wa.gov.au
  • WA mine sites: if a worker carries out construction work on a mine site, the PCBU must ensure they have completed general construction induction (white card) training. If the training was completed more than two years ago, the worker must have carried out construction work in the past two years. A white card from another jurisdiction is accepted if it is a similar card issued by an authorised RTO and not cancelled. Work on mining plant counts as construction work only in limited cases (e.g. pipes, pipelines, underground tanks, fixed plant shutdowns involving 5 or more PCBUs).

  • WA: RTOs may only issue the WA construction induction card to candidates who provide evidence they are located in Western Australia at the time of assessment (e.g. WA driver licence, WA student ID, utilities invoice with WA address).

    Source: www.worksafe.wa.gov.au
  • WA online delivery: an older WorkSafe WA/DMIRS fact sheet states 'Online will continue to be available through registered training organisations, scoped to deliver training in WA.' Provider pages in this dataset show WA online delivery (self-paced theory plus webcam practical or virtual classroom) with a must-be-in-WA condition. NOTE: the Queensland Training Ombudsman 2024 interstate table lists WA online delivery as 'No', so the current WA position on fully online delivery conflicts between sources; verify with WorkSafe WA before relying on it.

  • WA (WorkSafe WA): cards are issued only to candidates who give evidence they are located in Western Australia at the time of assessment. The pages read for this guide do not state whether fully online delivery is accepted.

    Source: www.worksafe.wa.gov.au
  • WA replacement: contact the RTO that issued the card. If that RTO has closed, take your CPCCWHS1001 statement of attainment to another RTO. If no record can be found, redo the course. The RTO sets any fee; WorkSafe WA states none. Cards can be looked up in the WorkSafe WA construction induction training card database.

White Card WA questions answered

Can you do a white card online in WA?

Some WA providers sell online courses, often self-paced theory with a webcam practical or a virtual class, and they all require proof you are in WA. An older WorkSafe WA fact sheet said online delivery would continue through RTOs scoped for WA, but a 2024 interstate comparison lists WA online delivery as no. The current WorkSafe WA pages do not say, so confirm with WorkSafe WA first.

Do I need to be in WA to get a WA white card?

Yes. RTOs may only issue the WA construction induction card to people who give evidence they are located in WA at the time of assessment, such as a WA driver licence, a WA student ID or a utilities bill with a WA address.

Does a WA white card expire?

No fixed expiry. It stays valid while you remain in the construction industry, but it becomes invalid if you leave the industry for two consecutive years or longer.

Do I need a white card to work on a WA mine site?

If you do construction work on a mine site, yes. If your training was more than two years ago, you must also have done construction work in the past two years. Work on mining plant only counts as construction work in limited cases, such as pipelines or fixed plant shutdowns involving five or more businesses.

How do I replace a lost white card in WA?

Contact the RTO that issued it. If that RTO has closed, take your CPCCWHS1001 statement of attainment to another RTO. If no record of your training can be found, you redo the course. The RTO sets any fee; WorkSafe WA does not list one.

Is an interstate white card valid in WA?

Yes. WA recognises general construction induction done in another state or territory, both blue and white card types, if you can show evidence of it.
