What affects pay
Roster
No source we checked publishes a roster specific to camp cooks. Rosters vary by site and employer, so confirm it in the job ad. A parliamentary inquiry found FIFO cycles run from 9 days on and 5 off to 28 days on and 7 off, with a twelve-hour on-site day typical. The report is from 2013, so treat it as background.

No source we checked gives a FIFO versus residential pay figure for this role, so we do not show one. When you compare offers, check whether the figure is a base rate or an all-in figure, and what the employer provides for flights, accommodation and meals.
Award or enterprise agreement
The Mining Industry Award 2020 sets minimums only. Under it, casual staff get a 25% loading, and afternoon or night shift is paid at 115% of ordinary hourly rate. Mines often pay above the award under enterprise agreements, but we cannot verify typical figures.

FIFO Cook salary questions answered
How much does a cook earn in Australia?
SEEK's page shows an average salary of $75,000 to $80,000 a year, with a median of $77,500, based on salaries disclosed in job ads.
Is the SEEK figure for a FIFO camp cook?
No. SEEK's page is for cooks in general and has no Mining, Resources & Energy figure. Camp catering ads may pay differently, so check the job ad.
Why is the award rate different from SEEK's range?
The award is a legal minimum, and SEEK's range reflects what employers disclose in job ads. The two measure different things, so we show them separately and do not blend them.
